Vlad Plahotniuc Met IMF Officials in the USA

The First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and Vice-President of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc, accompanied by the MPs Igor Corman and Adrian Candu, met the International Monetary Fund in the United States of America, represented by the Deputy Director of the European Department of the Fund, Aasim Husain.
The fiscal reform was the main subject of discussion of Moldovan parliamentarians with the IMF. In this context, both sides confirmed their commitment to continue the cooperation between Moldova and the IMF for the economic development of our country. The priorities listed by Vlad Plahotniuc during the meeting with the IMF include: local government reform, fostering of private initiative, enhancing fiscal discipline, regulation of the private pension system and independence of the National Bank of Moldova.
"In my role of the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, I always opted for Parliament’s involvement in the timely fulfillment of all commitments with the IMF. All pending laws were passed in the Parliament before the end of the summer session. Now all attention turns to the management of state institutions with the goals to fulfill its commitments under the agreement with the IMF," said Vlad Plahotniuc during the meeting in the US.
In turn, the Deputy Director of the European Department of the IMF said: "We are happy that your priorities coincide with those of the IMF. The relationship between the International Monetary Fund and Moldova was good and consistent. For us, it is encouraging that you see an opportunity for implementing reforms in the two and a half years left until the next election. I hope there will be the political will to take action to improve the tax systems". Also Aasim Husain encouraged Moldova to ensure economic growth and encourage private business.
The specific measures to be taken to support businesses, especially small and medium enterprises in Moldova were also discussed by Moldovan MPs with representatives of Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) in the US. This organization is known for the support it provides to SMEs with US participation and in Moldova OPIC carries out a partnership with the Investment Attraction and Export Promotion (MIEPO).
