Vlad Plahotniuc, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, met Eric Cantor, Republican Party leader in the House of Representatives of the US Congress. The two officials discussed the relations between the US and Moldova, issues related to intensification of Parliament’s relations, the reforms taking place in our country, the fight against corruption, settlement of Transnistrian conflict, but also about the opportunities Moldova can provide to American investors, a release of the Directorate of Communication and Public Relations of the Parliament says.
The reform of the political system in Moldova was a special topic of the discussion. Vlad Plahotniuc presented his initiative on the uninominal vote and the transparency of political party funding to the US Congressman. Mr. Eric Cantor praised these initiatives as necessary and beneficial.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and leader of the Republicans in the US Congress House of Representatives also discussed the economic situation of our country. The US official assured that the US was ready to continue to support the economic development of the country. In this context, Eric Cantor announced that he would also support Moldova's removal from the list of Jackson Vanik amendment which imposes trade restrictions for Moldova, along with countries like Russia and other former communist countries.
