The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities approved a new bill registered by Vlad Plahotniuc, the first deputy President of PDM and a group of MPs from the Democratic Party. The bill aims to reform the system of election of MPs.
According to a press release issued by UNIMEDIA, the initiative of PDM is a result of discussions on the previous proposal of Vlad Plahotniuc on the uninominal vote and offers a compromise solution, which consists of a mixed system of election of Members of Parliament. "This solution provides introducing the uninominal vote for the election of at least half of the Members of the next Parliament and would be a big step towards accountability of the political class," said Vlad Plahotniuc.
If voted in the Parliament, this law will bring changes to the Election Code and the future composition of the 50th legislature will include MPs elected by uninominal vote, who will directly represent citizens in specific constituencies and other 51 MPs elected on party lists.
